1. INTRODUCTION

The Jamaica Energy Partners group recognizes the need for academic advancement to foster economic development in Jamaica. The company remains committed to assisting in laying the building blocks for academic success within the communities in which it operates. Ten (10) recipients will benefit from scholarships and grants valuing J$250,000.00 and J$180,000.00, respectively, each per school year, payable per semester, covering tuition, books and material.

2. DEFINITIONS

Communities: Must have lived within the areas listed as Region 1 and 6 for a minimum of five years and currently reside within the respective boundaries.
Region 1: this refers to communities within the parishes of Kingston & St. Andrew.
Region 6: this refers to communities within the parish of St. Catherine.

3. ELIGIBILITY

a. All students who live within the boundaries of Regions 1 & 6 based on the definition as mentioned above;
b. Scholarship to be awarded for study at a recognized/accredited tertiary institution must be approved and regulated by the relevant governing bodies;
c. An individual must be twenty-one years (21) or younger upon entry to the institution to benefit from this programme;
d. The scholarship is provided for academic excellence and or financial need.

4. EXPENSES COVERED

a. Scholarships will cover the following expenses:

i. Tuition; and
ii. Related expenses such as books, supplies and equipment required for courses;

b. The scholarship does not cover costs such as room and board fees;
c. This award is eligible to both full time and part-time students pursuing degree and diploma programmes. However, for part-time students to be eligible, the individual must demonstrate exceptional circumstances that have prevented him/her from full-time enrolment;

5. DURATION & VALUE OF SCHOLARSHIP

a. The duration and the value of the scholarship are dependent on the discretion of the management and board of directors of the Jamaica Energy Partners Group.
b. However, as a guide, the scholarship will be for a minimum of one year, provided that the student can maintain an average grade point average (GPA) of B+.
c. Any recipient who falls below the required GPA for any semester will have a semester to improve the grades, should the scholarship be for a period greater than one (1) year. Failure to meet the required grades will result in the scholarship being discontinued. The individual may reapply should the grades be improved to the required level.
d. Jamaica Energy Partners group may extend the scholarship for a period not greater than the prescribed length of study as described and prescribed by the tertiary institution.
e. The value of the scholarship will be dependent on the tertiary institution and the availability of funds by the company.
f. The company maintains the right to discontinue funding and the programme at any time it deems fit.
g. Scholarships will be terminated on the following basis:

i. Suspension from school for misconduct or inappropriate behavior
ii. Failure to meet academic progress and/or
iii. If the student was dishonest on the application for the scholarship.

6. APPLICATION PROCESS

a. Interested individuals must complete the attached application form, and applications must be submitted by August 11, 2023.
b. The following must accompany the attached application:

i. Letters of recommendation – must include one from the school principal and one from a community member (JP or a Minister of Religion).
ii. Student Essay

c. The essay must clearly state three (3) things the candidate hopes to accomplish by pursuing higher learning.
d. How the area of study will benefit and help to support the community.
e. How the area of study is relevant to the energy sector in
Jamaica.
f. Essay must be between 500 and 550 words, typed, and double spaced.

iii. Official transcript (CAPE/GCE results).

g. Students must address applications to the Scholarships Department, Jamaica Energy Partners, 1 Wikip Place, Marcus Garvey Drive, Kingston 14, St. Andrew, Jamaica.

7. PAYMENT OF SCHOLARSHIP

a. Payments to be made will be in the name of the institution the awardee will be attending.
b. Jamaica Energy Partners will make payments on a semester basis.
c. Funds will be disbursed before the payment deadline of the institution.
d. Scholarship/grant awardees will be advised when our Accounts Department has prepared the disbursements.
e. It is the recipient’s responsibility to inform Jamaica Energy Partners’ Corporate Responsibility Manager of the payment deadline.
