Dr Wayne McKenzie, OD

President & Chief Executive Officer

Dr Wayne McKenzie, OD, is an accomplished and visionary leader with almost 30 years of experience in the energy sector. Wayne recently completed his DBA and holds an MBA and BSc in Electrical Engineering (Hons.). He joined JEP in 1996 as Chief Project Engineer, later becoming General Manager in 2000 – the youngest national to lead a Jamaican energy company.

Dr McKenzie has played a significant role in the growth and development of Jamaica’s energy sector, leading the transition of JEP’s operating asset to self-operation, and securing financing for Group expansions. His expertise extends to power plant development, management, operations, power purchase agreement negotiations, capital structuring, risk management, and strategic planning. He received the Prime Minister’s Medal of Appreciation and the Order of Distinction (Officer Class).

Currently serving as President & CEO of the JEP Group (JEP, WKPP & JPPC), Wayne’s leadership also focuses on ensuring a more sustainable Jamaica, which led him to launch Evergo Jamaica/EVPower Jamaica Limited, the island’s largest, most sophisticated network of electric vehicle charging stations.

Beyond his impressive professional accomplishments, CEO McKenzie is deeply committed to community development and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). He invests time and resources in health, environment, education, and sports initiatives in the Western Kingston, Eastern Kingston, and Old Harbour Bay communities. Wayne has also personally mentored scholarship recipients, who are now gainfully employed professionals and often join him in giving back to society.

He serves on various boards and committees, including the Energy Council of Jamaica, Jamaica Environment Trust, Port Authority of Jamaica, Montego Bay Marine Park, Polly Ground Primary School, Edward Seaga Primary School, and a former member of Jamaica’s consultative group of advisers on least-cost strategies. Considering his passion for the environment and its preservation, Dr McKenzie, OD, also serves on the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) Climate Change Committee.
