In commemoration of Energy Month, the Jamaica Energy Partners Group is proud to have sponsored Evergo’s inaugural Secondary Schools’ E-Mobility Robotics Competition. Congrats to Jamaica College (JC), who finished the victors after competing with eight other high schools, including Tarrant, Immaculate, Pembroke Hall, Rusea’s, Kingston College, Calabar, York Castle, and Enid Bennett. The Honourable Daryl Vaz, Minister of Science, Energy and Technology (MSET), delivered greetings with our President & CEO, Mr Wayne McKenzie, OD.
Minister Vaz stated that he appreciates initiatives of this nature where young people obtain exposure to emerge in technologies and enhance their skills and competencies. He emphasized that e-mobility is a significant part of creating a modern energy sector in Jamaica. CEO McKenzie reiterated the minister’s e-mobility thrust, underlining that while the Government promotes green energy as a mode of mobility, we at Evergo support the Government in its national effort by installing chargers islandwide and positioning them in close proximity where Jamaicans can feel comfortable to drive, plug-in and charge.
JC received the first-place cash prize of $125,000, a trophy, evergo gift packages for the participating students and coaches. The company also commends Kingston College and Calabar, who finished as the second and third place winners, copping cash prizes of $75,000 and $50,000, respectively, trophies and plaques. In addition, Tarrant High School achieved sectional awards for the ‘Most Engaged Coach’, York Castle for the ‘Most Engaged Student’, and Jamaica College for the ‘Fastest Finisher’.
Evergo Jamaica is grateful to everyone who made the debut of this competition an exceptional one. As leaders in e-mobility, we hope the participating schools feel empowered, are more knowledgeable in robotics and understand the importance of utilizing renewables and more sustainable forms of energy to produce power.
