This year, we at the Jamaica Energy Partners Group celebrate 24 years of fulfiling the academic dreams of students from our neighbouring communities. On Friday, September 3, the Group awarded forty-four PEP achievers and ten tertiary scholars at our annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony. Considering the pandemic and the safety of our staff and the students, we had to replace the usual formal gathering with a walk-thru ceremony, which allowed students to collect their scholarship packages and participate in a quick photo moment.
PEP students received $35,000 each and a bonus gift card valuing $20,000 to purchase books and other educational materials. Tertiary students earned grants of $180,000 or scholarships valuing $250,000 and a $30,000 meal card. The scholarships are payable per semester and renewed until the completion of study once students maintain a B+ average/3.0 GPA.
Following the official welcome at the ceremony, the 5-minute video feature sent via SMS to the parents and students further sealed the deal. The video included a message from our President & CEO, Wayne McKenzie, OD; keynote address from Jerome Cowans, a recipient of the Governor-General and Prime Minister Youth Award. Also, a testimonial from a past recipient, Rushaine Cunningham, who is now Attorney at Law and Managing Director at Cunningham Law Caribbean.
JEP Group will continue to provide scholarships and other educational opportunities for youngsters residing in our neighbouring communities. It is one of the many avenues through which we foster personal and professional growth so that our youth can contribute positively to society and lead honest and meaningful lives.
