In September, the CSR team and 12 Old Harbour Bay fisherfolk set sail to Rolling Bay Beach for the JEP Group inaugural Trash Haul Competition. The fisherfolk, who competed for 1st place, cash, and other prizes, rid the beach of over 1,300 pounds of garbage! In addition, all participants received a Fisherman’s Coop gift voucher valued at J$10,000 each, while the top three collectors secured the grand prize of J$50,000.
Building on this year’s success, the CSR team is already excited for the next staging. We look forward to adding the Trash Haul Competition to our growing list of social and environmental intervention programmes. A big thank you to The Fisherfolk Council of Old Harbour Bay, Jamaica Fisherman’s Coop Union, National Fisheries Authority, the Old Harbour Bay CDA, C-CAM, Recycling Partners of Jamaica, NSWMA, South St. Catherine Chamber, and the Marine Division of the Old Harbour Bay Police Force for partnering with us!
Recycling Partners of Jamaica reported that we collected 1070 pounds of recyclables or 23,540 bottles.
